I need some advice.

I know, I have no excuse to save myself from torches and pitchforks wielded by you, my dear viewers, but work, Japanese classes, several unfinished or new videogames in my collection (well, just 4 of them but still, that’s a lot O_o), and the fact that I’m moving sometime soon (as soon as my mom decides where to ¬_¬; ), have prevented me from drawing ANYTHING AT ALL >_< *waits for stones*

>_<

o_<

o_o What? No stones? OK Then.

To be honest, I’ve been thinking of buying a computer for my personal use, since my sister hogs the laptop and there are days when I can’t even check my email because of that >_> The interesting part of this is… well, I’m thinking of switching to a Mac. I know lots of people think it’s the best when it comes to media and design. I also know if I ask for advice in a Mac forum, I’ll probably be convinced to something I'm not looking for by a bunch of long time Mac OS fans, based on their love to Apple. And I’m not saying that being a fanboy is bad (I’m a Nintendo fangirl, so I can’t criticize that), but I'd like an opinion from photoshop users.

So here's the deal: I'm thinking of a low end iMac, because I don't need mobility at all and I don't have much money to spend ^^. I want to use it for the basic stuff: Surf the internet, burn DVDs, I don't play much on the computer (and when I do, I play PS1 games, and they're not that heavy as current PC games), might do occasional music editing, flash animations... and the most important thing: I want to be able to use photoshop and manga studio. I usually work with 300MB PSD files, and I want to know if Photoshop is more speedy on a Mac than a PC. Because if I can get a cheaper PC that can handle photoshop as well as a Mac, I might as well get a PC instead (yeah, I know Macs practically don't get any virus or freeze up, but well, I can deal with PCs) Now, I know the new iMacs just came out, and the new ones have an integrated graphics card instead of a dedicated one, though it has higher capacity. Does that change much when using it for photoshop?

So, if you could help with any feedback, any at all, I will highly appreciate it. Maybe I should check out the forums too, to see if anybody has asked for this same thing. Anyways, thanks, guys ^_^ Next mission, finish that Vaati drawing!

I've used both a PC and Mac. Both of them seem pretty workable for me, although I've been a Windows user for most of my life, and it's worked out fine for me.

My dad, and therfore I, has been a lifetime user of Apple so I'll tell you first off that if you buy Apple it'll work for years. If you properly give photoshop about half of your memory it'll run it's smoothest. 300 MB files WILL slow photoshop no matter if you use Apple or Windows, even with a powerful processor. I haven't tried CS4 Photoshop yet so I don't know how it is on Apple, but I haven't been disappointed with CS3's performance.

To clear up some misconceptions, Apple does get viruses. There are so few Apple users out there that it is statistically pointless by most hackers to make a virus for it. But there ARE Apple viruses out there. And as for not freezing, Apples just stop running the problem program and you can force quit the application. Apples can have OS problems, but I haven't had that problem since OSX.3. Odds are the worst you'll get is major slowdown.

I have worked with Windows and Apple a lot and from my experience with Apple run smoother than Windows. The best part about Apples tho is if you keep your programs up to date then you will be compatible with almost every printer, camera, or peripheral you can use. Apple's weakness is the simple lack of games (not that it matters, I think PC gaming sucks), and lack of programs. Apple does have some great programs of their own though.

Just don't buy the new laptops, they are the Zelda CD-i of this generation of Apple products.

It will deffently take some getting used to thats for sure. The computer I had before this one was a Mac and I loved it but it was very different. It would be like going to Vista stright from Windows 95.

I hope life isn't a big joke, because I don't get it.

I personally use a laptop with Windows Vista for all of that, but I find Macs to over priced and complicated because I don't really use Macs on a daily basis; only in my Technology class.

Macs have all the cool media editing stuff but PCs can do the same, just not as good.

lol about your sister. i kinda have the same situation but its the one computer that has viruses ~_~ so i got a spare from a friend and i only use it for art based and creating stuff only with no internet so it wont get a virus lol. so yeah thats a good idea, and yes macs are good for most art related things but just in case your files like your 300dpi psd files are too big and other big stuff you can get a external device for more memory or capacity space(if they do have one for mac *_*) if im right. since im new with mac or i dont own one yet but one day hahaha. or get a mac with more GB XD
awwww goodluck to you for the moving. i had that too when something comes up and its time consuming. the tip i can give you is set up a time schedule. time management is the key. if you want to draw more, try drawing a bit everyday if you can like breaks during the day. drawing should be relaxing ^.^ well thats is all. hope this helps. goodluck~ :D
